Reconnect Family Counselling & Mediation

Are you a young person feeling alone or disconnected from your family? Are you a parent worried about losing touch with your child? Then talk to our Reconnect team.

Our family-centred counselling and mediation services are designed to help young people and their families reconnect. That means we can help you overcome a range of practical and relationship-orientated challenges to establish and rebuild more rewarding family connections, in order to reduce the risk of youth homelessness.

What services does Reconnect offer?

  • Support and assistance to young people and their families
  • Family mediation and conflict resolution
  • Referral and information
  • Skills development and community education

That includes:

  • Practical advice for young people, whether staying where they are or returning home
  • Help working towards achieving or restoring positive family relationships
  • Mediation between family members
  • Support for parents in accepting their young person’s independence
  • Assistance with support systems for young people who live independently from family networks
  • Help for at risk/homeless young people with engaging in employment, education training and the community
  • Help for young people and their parents throughout Centrelink’s income support/assessment process

Referrals to our Reconnect service can be made through:

  • Self referral
  • Parents or guardians of a young person
  • Family/friends
  • School staff
  • Other agencies
  • Government departments
